I decided that I’m sort of sick of digital cameras right now and want a film camera of the toy camera variety. I’m trying to find samples of photos but most of what I can find are people taking pictures of the camera artistically and them posing with camera. SMH. Anyone know any awesome 35 mm film cameras?

christopherburton: weirdgasm: @christopherburton: I will admit “tension” was not word I was going for here. It’s not always as overt as being flagrantly discriminated against with racial slurs. I was trying find a word for how one’s individual upbringing within separate races results on certain issues, not full out race wars. There is a tendency with “colorblindness” to ignore because of one’s...

This Year Will Be My Trial for Video
I’m in a haul to prove myself production-wise to finally know whether to stay or move on to something more stable. Works in progress: My brainchild- the social media-optimized, talk-variety web series Pounce On It (news, panels, interviews, sketch comedy, games) The recording of at least 5 live events 2-3 full-feature length works (one documentary and two other undecided works)

Another Failure-to-Launch job opportunity
I’m down to two more semesters left in college and it’s still exceedingly difficult to get a paying job. I’ve probably filled out hundreds of grueling applications only to get a handful of callbacks and even less interviews. I can’t really pinpoint what’s going wrong. I follow every guide possible and look presentable each time. I keep wondering is it the hair....

NAACP Image Awards are always a mixed blessing
Pros: Some really overlooked performances get at least a little due. Treme and SouthLAnd are really the little-shows-that-could but year after year get denied even being short-listed for any well-recognized honor. Some beautiful people that ordinarily would be denied the red carpet experience get to shine on. Community and less entertainment-based honors are a nice touch I am more satisfied...

Seeing a lot of Megan Mullaly on every show lately
She definitely needs her own show again. Her and Jackee Harry are just too fab not to on TV.

How do these natural women manage to get the back...
I mean it’s 4 years post relaxer and I’m still trying to make it happen. I rejoice every time my hair does not look like a rat’s nest in the back but I desire to have an evenly coiffed hairstyle. How does one manage that without having to pay a fortune to a hairdresser?

Awkward weave encounter
So I’m just standing still, caught in the massive traffic jam that is GSU on Thursday, when all of a sudden I feel a tug on my peacoat. Some girl has managed to get her track caught around a button in my peacoat. I remained silent and still as a person could when they’re being pushed in the opposite direction of traffic flow. Yet through this, the girl shouted at me and demanded that I...

I really wish I had the resources to create some sort of symposium for teens and tweens about post-high school life but not in that icky guidance counselor way. The teens I know are either super obedient that they refuse to step out and make independent decisions, too overconfident in their security (like me and few cousins that I’m watching make the same mistakes), or just generally are...

djripley: Yes but I don’t believe they are unspoken. They may not always HAVE to be spoken, but (the mostly but sadly not entirely white) folks in charge aren’t ashamed to say they limit the number and position of POC in a cast. People can say it’s in the name of “marketing” or “audience response” or whatever.. I have personally heard accounts of, as well as reading in many media studies...

grassleaves: sourcedumal: Since this young woman seems to be so insistent…I could not ignore it. Because of how angry she is. That probably says something about me; that I choose to go after the angry ones. Oh weeeeeeell. Okay, listen. Media is biased. It always has been and that’s a given. Everything is biased and nothing is subjective. That’s a fact of life that will NEVER. EVER. Be...

Casting Epiphany
From Gabourey Sidibe’s press (SNL and talk show appearances), a manic pixie dream girl role (a character not so different from New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel role) would be a welcome departure to her resume. She just so energetic, full of life, funny, and doesn’t disguise her fanaticism or excitement for her fame. Does it hurt see someone be a purely joyful character once in a while?

My only problem with this is that this reads like the writers/creators of a show featuring a POC character are supposed to make that character the center of attention. It’s not the writer’s job to make a statement on race relations like some people seem to think it is. Like…what’s wrong with enjoying television these days and why does everyone seem to have a bone to pick with...

Why does it feel like network TV has unspoken rules for POC characters? Seriously. I love how this person is talking about this like it’s an ACCIDENT. The title of this post is ‘Why does it feel like network TV has unspoken rules’ and the answer is BECAUSE. IT. FUCKING. DOES.  The racial makeup of these shows isn’t an accident. It isn’t based on some open-call audition in which the MOST...

Not sure what the hell happened...
…but a post from last week just randomly skyrocketed to 268 notes. Some valid points have been added to the discussion but I’m slightly afraid to chime in because of my history with the topic. It can get pretty damn ugly. I’m goin in! No time to puss out.

This social media class is hella weird already
It’s super weird when you’re forced to be in a social network with your class. I’ve posted one blog and there’s already a troll. They’re purposely responding to everyone’s personal blogs with not just differing opinion but concocted inferences from each blog to incite conflict. It’s so much more awkward when you have to be in same room with that person. In...

Real talk: On buying weave hair and ish
If there was a class on Awkward Racial Politics 101, visiting beauty supply stores would have its own section in the textbook. It’s just mind boggling how little two ethnic groups that thrive on each other for survival for so long have still no relationship. In searching for products to prepare for kinky twists I came across some peculiar things. With this rash of Remy thefts, the security...
