It seems less and less of movies and TV stories are of any substance. All seem to have this passive-aggressive method of trying to winning the sympathy of viewers rather than focusing on content. The showrunners simply oversell the stories of individuals rather than allowing them to speak for themselves through their actions and triumphs. Everybody and everything has a mile-wide backstory that must be repeated and driven into the ground every time they are visible on screen. It just doesn’t sit well with me. There is a huge different between making us root for the underdog and guilting your way into someone’s affections. And showrunners try to hard for the latter.
Drama should never be the selling point of anything and should be used moderation. There should be just enough to move the story along and add intensity. It’s no different from life. There is not one person on the planet that has a 100% perfect life. We all have some setback or disadvantage that hinders us from having what we think we should have. But it’s these little things that makes us stronger and build character. They make our personal experience interesting and challenge us to push harder. It’s when we take that drama make something constructive from it that makes us noteworthy. When we wallow on it, it only destroys us from the inside.
Drama is also one of those things that lose interest when more participants are added. When inundated with other people’s drama from every side, it makes the experience less enjoyable and more annoying. It takes away from the entertainment value too. TV and movies are supposed to provide us with an escape not weigh us down
Entertainment is like a cake to me. You can bake it with love and affection, but if you don’t have the skill, right ingredients, and follow the right procedure, that doesn’t make up it being a piping hot mess. One should not get so tied up with one element that the other ones that count are completely discounted.
